Default 99 civic with JDM OBD2 D16a. Gutless...

Just picked this car up for my little brother and it acts like it has the tallest gears ever. it takes forever to get the RPM's and the speed up. It will actually lose speed in 5th gear on the high way. NO CEL...I dont get it. Whats also odd is you can actually feel the vtec kick in which on other single cam swaps have never really been that pronounced.

Any help would be great.

Define "forever". Sounds normal for this engine.

It feels like there is no torque whatsoever. You have to leave it in 4th on the highway or it will not keep up with traffic.

If you rev it in neutral does it have good throttle response or does it take a second. Almost sounds like the timing belt is retarded a tooth.

not sure what you're expecting from a single cam 1.6

Theres not even enough torque to chirp into 2nd on my buddy's 1.8 dohc. Imagine the poor sohc 1.6
Honda and torque never really got acquainted.
