Hey guys, I noticed a small leak in my dsm 1G bov, I had the car idling and was playing with the rad fan and noticed a very faint air ammount flowin out of the BOV exit.

I revved the car up to 2500rpm or so and the ammount of air increases to probably the ammount of air someone could blow out of there mouth while exhaling normally. But air is definetely coming out.

I can use my finger placed inside of the bov to push down on the valve to stop the leak....

It is a DSM 1g bov, and is slightly crushed, my instinct is to crush it slightly more, but then I think this small ammount of air might (but I doubt) be acceptable, since the car does seem to build boost fine. And its boost source is a brand new solicone vacuum line straight to the intake manifold

What do you guys suggest?

 

I suggest getting a TiAL, TurboSmart, or another name brand that has a proven track record.

 

Most valves are open at idle and light rpm

It will close under load

Don't worry about it, my type s and turbonetics raptor as well as my ARC all stayed open at idke

 

I agree with Wantboost. It is vacuum that opens the BOV and you have plenty at idle. Without electronic controlls, the mechanical versions just open when told to (when there's vacuum). If you are running a MAF sensor, just be sure the BOV is air cleaner side of the MAF (which isn't always easy). This way you aren't dumping fuel for air the engine never sees.

I run blow through setups on maf cars, placing the maf after the intercooler gives you a much more accurate reading of airflow to the motor as well as air temps. I did it on my s13 with an sr, car ran perfectly, no hiccups and stumbling like a maf on the hotside or pre turbo. I then run my blow off valves on the hot piping, as there's no point in wasting the thermal efficiency of the intercooler. Ie wasting air that's already been cooled.

Plus the valve is louder :p

 

as long as its shut under boost/wot conditions is all you need tow worry about

 

Oh thats great news that it is functionning fine, I got the 1g bov powdercoated so I was hoping I wouldnt have to crush it

Im assuming it stays closed under booost as I hit very close to the 10psi my wastegate spring is rated for

It is slightly crushed, put a penny ontop and crushed in a vice until the penny went flush. Got that from the dsm forums

I'll up the boost in the summer and see how she holds I guess if everything is working fine and leaking at idle is no problem

What I was worried about, is if the leak was only small like it is at idle, then I would think I was building boost fine when really I was leaking and not building my system up to the potential it actually had if the valve was sealed. Anyway to be sure its sealing under boost?
