94 ex CEL!!!! tired, please shed some light
Ok if youve seen some of my other threads youll know whats going on, swapped trans, had nothing but issues, so ive got a CEL on, when i did self diagnosis it came up as code 6, which is engine temperature control. So i bought a new sensor from work, its from what i thought it was supposed to be the one directly under the disi. that plugs into the block if im not mistaken? well i installed it and.....nothing! tried to clear it and....nothing, what else on the car could it possibly be besides this, im getting power to the connector, so any ideas?i had to advance the timing just to get it to run, its awful any help would be greatly appreciated!
Are you having any driveability or idle issues with the CEL?
Did you replace the single wire or two wire ECT sensor?
The single wire = sensor for the temp gauge on the cluster.
The two wire = sensor for the ECU & TCU.
What voltage are you getting at the sensor connector, 5v?
Are you checking to body ground or between the two wires or each wire to chassis ground? If you are checking the voltage between both wires, and you have 5v then it is an ECU issue.

well its sluggish, nearly impossible to start but thats probably because i had to adjust the timing to mforce it to run, i replaced the two wire right below the disi, w/ the switch on it measures 12v other than that i dont know where to check
With the ignition in position II you should disconnect the 2 pin connector and measure the voltage between the RED/WHT wire and chassis ground. You should see approx. 5v.
If you are seeing 12v there is a short somewhere or a problem with the ECU.
Do you know if there have been any modifications to the wiring harness?

well my light came on after i put the new trans in, then i did a wire tuck on it, but from what i touched i shouldnt have messed w/ that, so if it dosent have 5 volts where should i check for an issue? The new trans should not interfere with this?right?
You need to check the wires between the ECU and sensor. Also you can test the ECT circuit on the ECU itself.
You will have to back probe the ECU and check the voltage between pins D13 & D22 right at the ECU. Unless you happen to have a Honda ECU test harness available.
You should see approx. 5v between those tow pins. If your voltage is out of spec you should try to find someone local with a known good ECU that you can test in your car.

car was never auto trans, but im gonna have to hunt my wires some more and do some more testing, i may see if i can borrow a friends car to see if its my ecu. thanks again ghost
