B18b1 swap with hiccup and code 3
Hey, I swappped in a 96 Integra b18b1 this last summer, and I'm having a couple problems that have appeared recently. When my engine warms up, I have these hiccups like the engine dies for a split second. This doesn't happen when I idle, but more when I'm cruising at a constant speed. Sometimes, the engine/ecu also goes into this weird "mode." This does happen when the engine is idling and when I'm moving. When I sit still the engine idles at about 1,200 rpms, when I have it set to idle at 800. It also has this burning smell when it is in this mode. It isn't a sweet smell like coolant, but more of a burning smell like a clutch, or burning metal. To get it to go away, I usually turn the car off and on while moving with the clutch in, until the idle returns to 800. My car gives me a CEL code 3 for the MAP sensor. I just wanted to know if the bad map sensor is the cause of this.
The MAP sensor is one of the most critical engine sensors, so fix code 3 ASAP. A bad MAP sensor is not necessarily the cause. First voltage and Ohm test the three MAP sensor wires. And make sure they are properly pinned to the ECU and that the MAP sensor connector is not mistakenly swapped with another one.
I don't think they could be switched. When I swapped the engine in, everything ran fine. This just came up recently with the symptoms. I will try to replace it soon. Is Denso (OEM) a better brand than a Duralast MAP sensor available at Autozone?
