My Car Will Not Go Over 100mph...Plz Help
specs on the car
94 Civic EX, bone stock
cleaned the IACV, FITV
tranny shifts through all gears
145k on the motor, whole bottom end was rebuilt do previous wreck
I reach 3rd gear getting ready to shift into 4th and I literally have to ease off the throttle slightly for it to shift into 4th, then it accelerates to 100 mph and just sits there.
Im not a irresponsible driver, was on a closed road testing the car out, jus to clear that. Also I noticed that this is a Canadian built Honda...It says it on the frame when u lift the hood. Could it be like a govenor? Could my ECU be bad? There was no sputtering, it just shifted into 4th and sat at aprox 3.5k rpm
Also cant figure out why 3rd takes soooo long shift into 4th if you have the throttle 100%, but as soon as u let off just the slightest, it shifts.
any help is greatly apreciated.

It's not a governor, it's the fact that you have maybe 100 horse to the wheels, and 85 ft/lbs if you're lucky, and you're running an autotragic. Same answer to why it takes so long to shift. It's a slow car.
Times I've gone over a 100mph = maybe 3
Times I've actually needed to go over 100 = 1 (1/4 mile run on my turbo'd hatch back in the day)
There's no reason whatsoever that on a normal open road you'd ever need to reach 100. Save yourself, your family and all us drivers on the road from dying and keep it within the defined speed limit. And like others have said automatic is crap for performance or top speed runs so it sounds about right.

I don't understand why this is a problem.
How often do you expect to need a quick blast to 100+ mph?
Many autos shift like that, after you lift off the accel pedal.

jeez i knew it was going to turn into a rant fest about safe driving and all this other crap.
look I was on a 5 mile straight road that was closed. This is my first time owning a honda. The speedometer goes up to 120mph, I figured something was wrong with the car or computer. Im not out in traffic, swerving through lanes trying to top my car out from stop light to stop light. It was a simple question.
It seemed really wierd cause 3rd gear felt like it had so much more momentom to keep the car accelerating. plus ive seen youtube vids of hondas reaching well over 130mph NA.... not that im trying to go fast 24/7 but i would like to know my car can reach higher speeds

do any of y'all know how to read???
He's on a short CLOSED ROAD, the kind that's NOT COMBINED WITH TRAFFIC!!!
he's only doing speed runs, and just want to reach the vehicle's potential, that's all

And if he could show up there so could anyone else. And it wouldn't necessarily be someone in a vehicle either. This isn't a track or anything like that. We're still talking about a public road. Closed or not. If a cop happened to show up what would the explanation be for reckless driving?

Can anyone on this forum just simply answer someones question without b*tching, moaning and bashing everyone, Just because half of you sit behind a computer and can talk crap doesn't make you cool, no one wants to hear you cry like a girl about what someone askes or anything.
As for you all who do just simply answer and arn't dicks, You're good people.

Everybody is flaming you because you asked such a general question about a motor with only 125 hp and an auto transmission. Our hondas that came stock are grocery getters man. Those big wheels probably lug the car down a lot more also.
