Default flashing CEL problem...

Didn't mean to double post, but I heard that the ITR people here are more knowledgable and wasn't getting any help in the Hybrid section so heres it goes:

When I plugged up my obd2-obd1 harness w/ my mugen p28, I get the cel flashing code 8 constantly while I'm driving--constantly, all day long (service connector is not even plugged in and it's throwing the code). Any ideas?
Also recently added a code 1 to that too (service connector is not plugged and it's flashing for as long as the car is on--constant). I know exactly what those codes are but it's not supposed to do that, because ther's no check engine light with my regular obd2 setup at all.
Any help/suggestions will be appreciated, thanks.

Could it be your ecu?

Try and find a friend with an OBD 1 ecu and switch it with yours. See what happens.

If it keeps on flashing..it's your car. If it's cool, you know what it is.

I've tried my ecu in one of my friend's car and it had no cel. I threw my stock obd2 ecu back on and no prob. either. It must be the harness; but which wires could be wrong to cause a constant flashing cel without even connecting the service connector??
