98 civic dx o2 sim????
I threw a a whole new exhaust on my 98 civic dx with header and test pipe.(no cat) My car is chugging gas like theres no tomorrow. i was told i need an o2 simulator. i have been looking for one for months and cannot find one.
HELP ME PLEASE!!!
HELP ME PLEASE!!!
For the 13 months i've had my Civic, it's thrown a P0420 code (Cat bad or lack of a cat) Just 2 days ago I did the spark plug non fouler trick and after 200 miles so far, a code hasn't been thrown here's a link:

It's much easier and cheaper than an electrical simulator unless you don't have an o2 bung on the test pipe.

My guess is that he got a no name eBay style header and put the primary 02 on the first bung that only reads 2 cylinders and put the second on the second bung at the end of the collector. If so he definitely has a p0420 code along with others.
OP answer these questions:
1) Do you have any CEL's, if so, what code(s) are they?
2) Where are your 2 sensors bolted onto? Primary/Secondary
3) What kind of header + test pipe did you order? Link to item or provide a photo of how everything bolts up.
True true.
I'd think the same too, maybe he doesn't even have 2 bungs and it letting the secondary hang. Could be, Lack of info.

Is that a cheap replica of an already cheap header? lol
OP if you can't read what code you're throwing (if you are throwing a code)
Read this tutorial:

Im just recently getting into fixing the car up. I dont know much. but the check engine light is on and i get the 420 error when i hook the comp up to it. My second o2 sensor isnt hooked up to anything. just hangin there. all i know is that since i took the cat out my gas milage has dropped drasctically.

If I remember correctly, the dual-o2 sensor setup is used to compare each other. Assuming the catalytic convertor works, which in your case doesn't because you're running straight test-pipe.
Sensor 1) reads what's going out of the exhaust
Sensor 2) compares it to the first sensor to see if the catalytic did its job and 'converted' the carbon monoxide. Then however that is, adjusts the a/f ratio, hence running rich.
Somebody correct me if i'm wrong.
Try extending it:

then do the non-fouler trick I mentioned in my first post.

1.You only have one header
2.Cut wire
3.Splice new wire (16-18 gauge whatever works for you)
4.Happy pass inspection day

No, it works as a "confuse the O2 sensor to make it think everything is ok". O2 sims are expensive electronic devices that send a fake signal. The plug defouler trick works as a manual way to confuse the O2 sensor itself.
