i was wondering if anyone know the step to replace the inner and outer tied rod end? i see the dust cover like broke out so im assuming it need a replacement?

 

Not difficult at all, though its better to replace both and then get an alignment. Typically you unbolt them from the spindle, and then unscrew them using a wrench from the steering rack.

 

Try to mark where the nut is at before you start taking anything out. So when you put it back you'll know where to tighten it. This way you can drive it to alignment safely.

And what dust cover broke off? The boot?

 

yeah the boot broke off. so when i replace the inner tie rod would i need to put anything in the thread? also would i need any special tool to torque it? or just twist it until it tight?

 

This picture should help. You will need a 19mm wrench and a 1 1/14" wrech. Your best course of action after replacing is to try and align the wheels as straight as possible using the tape measurer method and that will get you good enough to drive the car right to the alignment shop.

 

do i need to buy a boot band? and tie rod clip? or does it come with it when i buy the boot? also would i need any grease?

 

I just did mine and I only replaced the tie rods themselves. I reused my original boots/clips. For the outer, I rented the tie rod remover from Autozone and it helped a ton. I also rented the tool for the inner but it was of no use since the inner tie rods were too big for the socket.
1.) Loosen but do not remove outer tie rod nut.
2.) Place the outer tie rod removal tool on the knuckle and press out the outer tie rod.
3.) Take out the outer tie rod from the knuckle.
4.) I used some vice grips on the inner tie rod and broke the inner tie rod loose by tapping on the vice grips with a hammer. Yup, ghetto but it worked for me.
5.) Remove inner tie rod. The old tie rods will have still been tied together in one piece so you can make a comparison on the new pieces as to how long they ought to be.
6.) Adjust the length on new tie rods and install.
