trans fluid
In my manual B Series transmissions over the years, I have always ran the Pennzoil/GM Synchromesh available at any auto store in the yellow bottle.
B Series manual trans take 2 quarts (actually it's like 1.97 quarts)

i have a d16, syncromesh, 2qt, $10 each, 15 mins if that.
-jack up car
-get the syncromesh, some fool at kragen told me to just run 10/40 oil, it sounded suspect, i googled it and then walked over to autozone. get manual transmission fluid or the correct gear oil.
-take 1/2 ratchet to trany plug *TURN COUNTER CLOCK-WISE... LEFTY-LOOSEY*
-let fluid drain into container, this is not oil nor can be put in an oil bin at parts store
-replace plug
-theres another bolt above the drain bolt. remove that
-place drain pan under tranny
-remove speed sensor (1 10mm bolt)
-get funnel extension and funnel, place into speed sensor hole, pour in 2 qt's
-check to see if any is coming out of the fill hole, thats how u know ur correct
-keep going in small spurts, 3 second intervals is great to minimize waste
-when fluid starts coming out of fill port, replace bolt
-replace speed sensor
thats it. people swear you need to fill only at the tranny bolt above the drain, dont worry about that i promise you, the speed sensor method is easier and JUST AS CORRECT! kragen/autozone wont know what weight of fluid or how much you need. i know the automatics take about 4 qts. for your tranny should be 1.8, pouring in 2 isnt going to hurt anything. i read somewhere fluid change is around 60k or something.
if your tranny makes noise when u release the clutch in neutral then your throw out bearing is on its way out. if it sounds like crap while youre going then it's most likely the input shaft/bearing.

Plenty of people have said this before. It's fairly common knowledge. It's not how the service manual says to do it, and if you don't measure out the fluid correctly, you'll overfill the transmission and risk damaging it.
I've always heard of doing it threw the vss hole but never tried it always do it threw the tranny fill bolt n i use 10 w30 for tranny fluid in my b20 have never had a problem with it
