Re-using a clutch? How much material should be on the disk? 4 puck LSD
Hey guys, I have a used LSD motorsports 4 puck clutch here. Pulled it off of a friends car (I bought the matching transmission to)
I am just curious if I can re-use the clutch or not, or any of the components, Is there a minimum of material that the friction plate should have (I think thats what its called) and can the pressure plate with all the "fingers" be re-used??
My pressure plate has some aparent rubbing where I guess the throwout bearing comes out and touches it?
Please advise me on what I can do and if I can save any money.
Thanks alot love this forum!

I will measure that when I get home, and if it is NOT 1/4" can I replace just that disc or do you buy a whole new matched clutch?
definetely not a quarter inch of material left and Im assuming there never was by looking at some other pictures, but the friction surfaces are pretty close to the rivets, so Im assuming its almost done.
Buy a new clutch, or just that friction disc needs to be replaced?

A quarter of an inch? Lol No. You could look up a pic of the clutch disk brand new and see how thick it was and compare it to yours, or post a pic of the disk and we can tell you if its worth re-using. If the disk still has decent life the pressure plate usually does too.
Also want to make sure the pressure plate isn't badly burnt. Make sure there aren't big blue glazed spots on it.

There are no glazed spots on it, but it does have very slight grooves in it
Im thinking because the friction material is close to the rivets in each "puck" section, that it may be time to replace.
I just didnt know if it was stupid to simply replace that disc, or if I should just buy everything.

I would recommend getting a whole new clutch kit then. Safe and best option if there's grooves and its close.
i mix and match, reuse and all. If its a ebay clutch, id replace it with a proper six puck, just because those things can only handle about 10-15k miles before the springs come out. the groove on the pressure plate fingers is normal and theres not really a rule of thumb when it comes to thickness. However they r really thin to begain with. I always spary the pressure plate and flywheel surfaces with brake clean and maybe even sand em a bit with 2-300 grit sandpaper. Right now i have a exedy light weight flywheel (off my buddys setup), egay pressure plate (off my old setup), and a new act six puck (well like 10k miles or so on it now) in my turbo d.
Im going to be replacing my clutch too b20 ls/vtec with cable tranny, lsd diff, and b16 final drive. What clutch kit would you guys recommend? I don't mind paying a little more for something that will last and handle launches, but I'd like something good for the money.
