Default Skunk2 ShortShifter Rattle

I got my skunk2 short shifter installed from GT3 today. I know most of you guys do that kind of stuff yourself, but I came up on some money at an Indian casino and so decided to waste my money by having GT3 install it. Anyways, now there are two different rattle noises coming underneath the car. The first sound is like loose screws, and it only happens when I am going 65+ or over sh!tty roads. THe second sound is more annoying, it's more like buzzing. You know when you have a system and your bass makes that rattle noise? It sounds exactly like that and it ONLY happens at 3,500 RPM in every gear. You guys know what the problem is? The guys at GT3 said that the short shifter should have come with a washer (and mine didn't) and that's the cause for the sound, but I've never heard of this before. I don't want to take my car back there again, I just don't trust them. I went there against my better judgement. Any feedback on this problem guys? Thanks in advance.

when I first got my shifter I had a little rattle noise but it came from my momo shift *** (junk) so I put my stock *** on their until I got the skunk2 and now I have no more problems. But I've heard many times that any aftermarket shifter creates more noise. I would take it to a Honda mechanic and let them take a look at it.

Even though I have like less than 10 posts, I've been on this board for a long while before I decided to become a member. I have also heard that after-market shifters tend to be more noisy than their stock counterparts, but I have never heard of this from Skunk2 and that was the reason that I bought it. And I know for sure that it's not the shifter that's the cause of this noise, but rather the screws, I believe. I just wanted to see if it was the screws, so that I may save a trip from having to go underneath my car and stuff. Or if the GT3 guys were right and I needed a washer... the shifter has two bends btw.

bah, honda mechanic to look at a shifter rattle? Dude, you must be rich, lol.
Just fix it your self. i got a rattle 5k and up on my stock shifter. With Es bushings. I ordered all new bushings for the inside of the bottom of the shifter. Should help that for me..if not, it will fix my wobbley (word?) shifter.

I got the Skunk2 on my 98 LS, My problem was that the spacer was too big and it wouldnt fit in there. So I just pulled out a whole bunch of washers that were as close to the right size as possible and crammed as many of them in there as possible, tightened it all up real good and now it feels great and doesnt make any noise. If that doesnt help there would have to be a clearence problem somewhere between your linkage your heat shield and your exhaust. If its your heat shield you can probably just bend it down alittle bit.

But since the guys that installed it said "there was no spacer" than you can probably assume they skipped it all together and than its no wonder its vibrating cause theres about 1/2 inch of empty space for it to move around. If thats the case, get the screw out from the bottom of your shifter under the car and get a lift up to home depot and get about 8 or 10 washers that fit on there nice and snug.

i had the same problem when i first installed it.. i didn't have the buzzing sound, but it rattled. i look underneath, the bolt was loose. all the washers and spacers seem to be intact, but no matter how i try to tighten them up, it still rattles..so i took it my friend's shop, he tighten them up again, then put some kind of special glue for metals.. it doesn't rattle now, and the shifter feels great.

I dont have a skunk 2 but i know that mine rattles sometimes as well. It doesnt always do it but i think it is rather normal for most aftermarket shifters.
