having a problem removing the speedometer pinion assembly
i cant get the speedometer pinion assembly to come out of my tranny i did alot research to find out how to remove it i found remove the 10mm(i did) remove the speedo cable (i did) and use vise grips and pull up i did that and its not budge for nothing can anyone help me out asap please its a stock 89 honda crx hf sohc
you can tap in anywhere its fine to tape it at the top where the spedo cable goes in just dont murder it. tap it lightly from as many sides as you can until it pops off
alright but the gear thing has to come out to change out the o ring cause am leaking fluid from the tranny and all around there is wet i already change the axle seal i got new shift rod seal and o ring for the speedometer
i havent got to doing the shift rod seal yet i do know getting the bitch pin out is a pain but am not worry about changing that one out i didnt think this one would be that hard to get out i've done them before n they came out easy this ones just being a pain in the *** and figured since all the others ones ive done once u take the 10mm out it usually comes out pretty easy by pulling up this one on the other hand ant so easy

well sadly i decide to switch up and try get the shift rod seal out and it took a whole 10mins to swap out the new one cant figure out why my speedometer is being a pain in the *** to come out
so after replacing the shift rod seal, the axle seal's, and speedometer pinion assembly o ring, it still leaks but it only leaks when driving its a mild puddle not to big but my dipstick oil level on it would be low, but its not so its tranny oil but cant figure out what it can be its only behind the lil black plate that guards the fly wheel.... has anyone had this problem? or knows what it can be? i thought it would be the rear main seal but again my oil level isnt low or nothing.
If you have oil coming from behind that plate it could be the engine's rear main seal like you sort of thought, but it could also be the seal for the transmission's main shaft. If it's the main shaft leaking then it would explain your tranny going low on oil.
What if it's Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF)?

its a 5speed and if it was the rear main seal id be loosing engine oil? and i don't.it only leaks when i drive the car. if i just let it sit there n run it don't leak but once i go drive even around the block it leaks, also i was told ef's use motor 10w30 engine oil for tranny fluid.
More than likely it is the engine just because it's such a common issue on most engines.
Since it's only leaking out slowly, it's going to be tough to see any change on your oil level.
If it's coming up on time to get a new clutch, it would be good to go ahead and do so as well as looking to replace the rear main seal.
Just wanted to throw out there that when my rear main seal was leaking I thought it was the oil pan gasket. Changed that out 2 times. We'd seal it up put the pan on and leave it sitting (idling) for 20 mins and no oil. Drive it around the block leave it set and BAM oil! Id say rear main, ive yet to come across a main shaft leak on the trans but im sure many have.
i already changed out the oil pan gasket to also its not that small of a puddle its like 1/4 of 1qt of oil am picking up a new tranny today along with stage one clutch n new fly wheel ill also be changing the rear main seal at the same time do it all at once and i hope it fixs the problem
