Removing transmission casing
Ok, I've removed all the bolts on my dseries tranny. I'm trying to remove the snap ring of the countershaft so i can remove the casing. I can't seem to get it off no matter how hard i try. Any Ideas?
there are two snap rings that needs to be released while pulling the casing apart. the dowel pin do a good job of keeping the casing together so you might have to hit one side of the case with a rubber mallet while have a friend or someone release the tension on the two snap rings. once you see a small gap you can stick a screwdriver between the case, be careful not to damage the case(s)
also...it depends on what trany. On a cable you only remove on snapring. There are linkage ***** at the bottom u have to remove and theres a bot on top of the trany to remove. If it is cable, remove the shift fork assembly as that will get in the way as well. U just have to play around with 2 screwdrivers...opposite sides to prey the case up as you spread the snapring apart. First times never a charm...but once you figure out the right location for the pry bars...it goes fast......Mike
I would suggest u check all the bolts first, i mean ALL

that bolt that is on the starter connecting to the engine

I have never worked on a D-series tranny, but I know I've cussed some B-series then realized I forgot the bolt that goes the opposite way of all the rest. Thanks, J
