Default Best Car Battery for 98 Civic HX?

Hello there, I would like to ask you guys for opinions on the best car batteries out there. Currently, I have a Neverstart I got from Walmart last year and it's already died on my several times. I was thinking about getting an Optima Yellowtop since I've heard almost nothing but good with them. I don't normally do anything heavy except listening to music while sitting in the car for a while. And I also live in Colorado where we have very hot summers and extremely cold winters. What would you guys recommend?

the best bang for your buck is duralast gold. it has 3 year replacement warranty. has great cold cranking amps. and 100+ running time amps. you can bang to some beats for a good two hours with car off and start your car like you didnt even use any power. and the battery only cost 115$.

The OEM batteries definitely last a very long time. I got close to 8+ years on my first one (In S. Fl, no snow).

the only prob with oem battery they are not good for aftermarket audio systems which cause a higher load on the battery that wasn't designed for but other than that nothing can beat the longevity of a oem Honda battery i mean come on its a honda battery you cant beat it. if it just used for oem electronics than a oem battery is the best MF battery you can buy.

The only aftermarket stuff I have in the car is a Kenwood X395 and 4 Kicker speakers. How long do the Honda batteries last? Are Napa batteries pretty good?

Napa sucks imo . i have nothing but trouble with them. Honda battery's last forever!! its worth every penny imo i had the same original battery in my 92 hatch from the factory and just had to replace it this year because i toasted it because i played music to long too many times and had to jump it a lot which destroyed it cuz its not a deep cycle battery. if i wouldn't of done that i would still have the original battery till this day. if that helps any. but if you don't wanna pay a lot of money for a battery. you can never go wrong with Duralast

It's not a straight 8 year warranty. It's something like 2 years solid, 6 prorated.

I got 11 years out of my OEM Honda battery....and that's with an aftermarket audio system, in New Brunswick, Canada, where it can get mighty cold!

Promptly bought another one.

Cheers, Senior Sol

Thanks for all these replies! I'll probably stop by the Honda stealer and pick up an OEM battery and see if my car is happier with that than the Neverstart battery that's in there now. I parked on a hill at work today so in case my battery would just die like its done for the past few days, I could just turn clutch start it. Manual transmission FTW!! :D I've also checked to see if there's anything draining the battery and there's not. The battery just tested as bad. I've only had that thing for one year... screw Walmart batteries!!

Interstate gets my vote
Its what I run. Ive had an optima yellow top and wouldn't buy again. And as my old man says, you never buy car parts at a place where they also sell tampons, so walmart brand is out, lol.

Duralast is crap. I have to replace so many before their warranty is up. I go a year and a half out of mine. I now run an Interstate MT51R great warranty, they normally last much longer than the warranty as well and if it does die 75 mounth free replacement.

My mechanic says the same thing, except with gold fish instead of tampons haha. There have been people who would buy overpriced generic brand motor oil at the grocery store I used to work at for their old GM's and Chrysler products that would burn through oil. I've never heard of a Honda burning oil...

^ lol, in h.s. I worked at a oil change joint and there was two guys there who would take the drained used motor oil, throw it in gallon water bottles and save it, and "top off" their old gm/fords. One of them would clear go through a whole gallon of oil a week. He just kept adding a quart a day, lol.

He'll never need to change the oil again! lol. Except maybe the filter every once in a while. I had a 93 Ford Escort before the Civic and it would burn through all the fluids in a week. Then again, it had 400,000 miles on it with 3 engine rebuilds and 7 junk yard transmissions. I'm driving my '98 Civic til the day I get old and can't drive anymore!
