New/fresh rebuilt motor will not start..compression low in one cyl..help!
the setup:
lsvtec(stock b16 head/cams,b18a block..cp pistons..9:5 compression,eagle rods)
1200cc rc injectors with a resistor box wired up correctly
neptune rtp ecu and etc..
I did the first startup yesterday and it would not turnover. i know its getting fuel because i smelt it and the plugs were a little wet with fuel so its not getting spark. i did a compression test today and the results came back
cyl4: 135
cyl3: 160
cyl2: 90
cyl1: 160
can anyone interpret these numbers and tell me what the problem could be? the head is seated properly..headgasket is torqued down to arp's specs.
the cars sat for awhile while the motor was being built and i have some old gas in there...i was thinking maybe that could be the cause of the non start but i put stabil and an octane booster in it while it was sitting.i havent tested my coil or distributor yet and will be doing that next..but its a fairly new coil and the dizzy never had issues on my old motor. the timing is also good. ill recheck it tho. any help is appreciated...im really not trying to tear this motor down again

just checked timing..it is dead on...i did notice while i was checking my timing that it seems to be a small leak coming from the headgasket..like if your looking at the crack where the headgasket sits between the head and block..the gasket part that sticks out and sits on the block is wet...nothing else leaked over there so it cant be run off from another leak..i wiped it dry so im thinking maybe the low compression could mean i need to retorque the headstuds..
there was a bit of smoke when i tried to start it once..i couldnt tell where it was coming from tho..
what would smoke from the intake indicate?
what would smoke from the intake indicate?
that the timing is off cause i just put new headgasket in my b20v and i had it off a tooth and it was smoking out the intake..so make sure u have the timing right and also the valves could be to tieght..did u replace the valves or was the head took off a runing car and never touched??

Well just seeing that cylinders 2 and 4 are low, cylinder 2 is pretty much dead it makes me wonder if you bent valves from incorrect timing. 160psi on your compression is fine and is normal but 135 is low and 90 is a dead cylinder that will not fire. Do a leak down. Who built the motor??
head is stock..it was just "freshened" up with a good cleaning and valve stem seals. but no port work or anything done
checked the valve lash..and the feeler guage wouldnt even fit in some valves? would this effect the starting of the car? i know it can effect the readings id get on a compression test.
im gonna try a friends distributor tomorrow...cause i know for sure the car was gettin g fuel and not getting spark since it was starting to flood the cylinders with fuel
any other help is appreciated..thanks for the replies

motor was built by a reputable machine shop...timing and everything was checked by a local shop when i went to get my intercooler piping done
yes not having your valve adjusted right will deff do that cause the valve is open and air is coming so the cyclinder wont seal and u wont get the right reading
