Default Xenocron.com Write-Up - DIY Install of Innovate, PLX or AEM Wideband to an EMS

I get this question in email and phone more than any other I think.

How to I hook up "X" wideband to "Y" engine management system so that I can tune or log Air/Fuel Ratio in my Engine Management of choice.

Well I sell Innovate, PLX and AEM widebands most commonly, and I tune Hondata, Neptune, AEM and Haltech (also sell these systems most commonly) so I thought it fitting to make an all inclusive write-up without gettting TOO technical to help answer these common questions.

...and here it is:

HTML version:

PDF Version
http://www.xenocron.com/downloads/Xe...band-Setup.pdf

Hopefully this helps a few people out there and answers more questions than it creates!

Xenocron, what if the tune was made and set to Open Loop on a Hondata S300 and converted over to closed loop with the integrated wideband? What kind of changes would have to be made to the calibration?

This write-up doesnt cover that, but its all in the CLOSED LOOP section of Parameters.

You have to wire it up following the same guidelines as this write-up, make sure you put a check in the box marked "Closed Loop Operation" and then check the box labeled "Use Wideband input for closed loop operation" and a fill out the rest of the details appropriately from there. Not a big fan of using this option on an OEM ECU like this unless everything about the car, wiring, etc is PERFECT

I would like to add for OBD1 systems I would avoid using the D14 (O2) input with a 0-5V wideband, as this input was meant for a 1V sensor, it cuts off at around 3.5V. It would cutoff leaner A/Fs, not a huge deal but I would rather have the full resolution of 0-5V inputs available on D12 or B6.

Also I found a few annoying bugs when using a wideband for closed loop in S300, apparently Hondata can't "reproduce the problem". So if your going to use closed loop get a regular O2 sensor on D14. Or use the second analog output on the innovate gauges which is a 0-1V simulated narrowband connected to D14.

Very nice work guys! One suggestion can you add a little piece of information about sensor placement and sensor angle when installed. It seems like everyone does not think this is important and installs it incorrectly which will cause a sensor to fail prematurely.

That is covered in the installation instructions of each wideband, which everyone should be following already, hopefully

Thanks for the kind words!
