Hey guys,

I put a JDM D15B (non-VTEC) in my car a little over a year ago, and I have been running it with my stock 96 DX ECU (P2E). It runs fine, I think. Main problem: it throws a CEL for the CPS because the D15B doesn't have one, so the wire on the harness for the CPS is just dangling, causing it to throw that code.

I don't much mind the CEL. I am mainly wondering if I would see a significant change (performance/mileage) if I purchased a chipped P06 ECU and ran a different map.

Basically, is the stock map on a P2E hurting my mileage/performance significantly, but to a degree I am not able to notice because I have no point of comparison with the D15B?
Also, I understand that I would need an OBD2A to OBD1 converter harness as well, true?

 

Change in performance? The words "Civic" and "performance" is an oxymoron. No. You won't see any significant gains with a chipped ECU on a stock economy engine.

 

To be clear, I am not expecting this to dramatically increase hp. I am merely asking if the map on a p2e is significantly different than that on what would be the matched p08 ecu for the jdm motor.
You are confused if you believe that no significant performance change can be experienced between two different ecu maps. The right or wrong map is the difference between full potential and sluggish pos

 

P08 is for a SOHC VTEC D15B not the mon VTEC. Marc's trying to say while the mapping may get your car back to its stock optimization it won't add barely if any performance. You can bypass the CKF code rather easily.

 

Oh, I'm interested in learning how to bypass the code... Is it just a matter of jumping the plug or something?
