Spool Differentials Reviews?
I recently got a spool diff in a trans tht i picked up frm someone. Unaware of it being a spool diff and not knowing much of the trans alone i was curious on some of others thoughts. Its a full blown drag race car. If so might be switching out to a Wavetrac LSD.
Ok first thing, a spool and differential are two different things. It's not called a spool diff, just a "spool". They both do the same thing but if you break an axle with a spool, your gonna have fun fighting the car to keep it out the wall.
THIS. Seen it happen, a good friend had an axle let go on the 3-4 upshift... Pretty sure he thought the car was toast at that point. He did manage to save it, pulled the spool out that weekend and replaced it with an lsd.
I've seen it too. Not a pretty sight. Same thing happened to a friends car. The Alex broke on the 3-4 shift and he was well over 110 mph. Shot straight into the right wall from the right lane. No time to react at all. Car was totaled on its third time to the track.

Run a helical LSD. No need to run a spool when an LSD will let it be streetable and safer. the only benefits a spool has are less weight and more power.
