Default CK gas saver cups?

Anyone using the CK gas saver cup kits? I've been welding a long time and always looking to improve. I hate being dependent on specialty items, so this looks cool, but if it doesn't work that well, then i'll probably pass. I was also thinking of rigging up my own trialing purge as well. I recently watched a SS demo from Lincoln on youtube and the instructor was using it. welding turned out pretty nice. I'm also interested to see what gas consumption is too.

i work out of my garage. i've got 2 125# bottles and run gas around 15~20 lb/hr. I'm ripping through gas lately and its kind of annoying picking up bottles every few days.

I'm trying to cut down on welding time. if i can go another 1/2" at a time, that will make my life a lot easier.

currently i weld sch 10 with 17 torch (on easy to get to areas), 3/32 tungsten, 2% red, pulse 115amps, 1.2 frequency, 30% on, 15 amp low, single pass w/ .040 rod. works well and is pretty quick, just trying to get quicker. I've got an Lincoln Invertec 205.

I have one. Never really noticed anything different about the weld quality or the amount of gas used. Main difference is the cup is easily breakable if you drop the torch.

Also if you walk the cup a lot the pyrex ones will melt. Quartz is better but is very brittle.

Thanks guys. Does the cup size allow you to weld further? i usually use an 8 cup on my torch and it seems like i get about a 1/2" before i have to stop.

I don't walk the cup usually, so that shouldn't be a problem.

No, I thought exactly the same as you. Gas saver is ironic because they use a tonne of gas. They don't shield as good as a normal lens either.

Get a large gas lense with a #12 cup. You will be able to travel about as far as can on schedule without worrying about losing color.

Large diameter gas FTW!
Here's a large diameter #12L I have for no particular reason, hopefully it'll come in handy one day, lol
