Default A/C turned warm - 1998 Civic

I have a just broken in (282K miles) civic. This summer when it has been 85-90 or higher....my A/C belt would squeal every once in a while....fairly rhythmically as I drive....today the A/C turned warm......I could smell what seemed like asbestos from brakes (wheel) I was on the freeway........I cannot be certain it was from my car....but it would be a strange coincident......When I check for Freon....the gauge stated I was why over pressure.

Any ideas on where to start? The compressor appears to start when I turn on the A/C.

Thanks

Rick

Have you done any work on the A/C system?

Does the condenser fan run? Is the condenser clogged with debris?

early summer it was a little low on freon......so I added some.....when I turn on the ac the compressor kicks in....I do not think the fan comes on hummmmmm. I hate to sound dumb......does the fan always engage when the ac is turned on?

Thanks for the feedback

Rick

The fan should run whenever the compressor clutch is engaged

Ok....its starting to get warmer.....I have determined I need a new Compressor........is it ok to change it out alone or do I need to replace the Dryer and other misc items?

Thanks

You should replace the drier whenever the pressure is let out of the A/C system because moisture can get in there, cause corrosion and before you know it, you're replacing the compressor again.

Once you replace the parts, take it to an A/C shop so they can vacuum out the system, check it for leaks and recharge it for you.
