Crank bolt removal 101...
A startling discovery has just been made. It may in fact be the easiest manner in which to loosen/tighten a crank bolt. The 'tool' I used was a spare throttle cable mount but any metal of comparable thickness and shape will work.
1. remove starter
2. insert 'tool' between clutch pressure plate and fly wheel
3. rotate crank until the 'tool' contacts the transmission housing
(if you like you can wrap the edge which contacts the housing to prevent damage)
4. i easily removed and then later tightened my crank bolt using this method
(i threaded a piece of wire through the 'tool' just to play it safe, wouldn't want it to get pulled into the transmission)

Same has and can be done through the access plate under the engine/transmission.
Downside is that if the bolt is REALLY tight, then you CAN crack your transmission housing.
It's been done before.

Breaking the crank pulley bolt off the right way isn't all that hard with the right tools. It took longer to get the bolts/prybar in place than it took to actually break the bolt loose.
