Default The question I'm gonna get flamed for.... but what the hell

Iv been on this website for a little bit. Don't do a lot of posting anymore. But I'm about to buy this EG hatch. Now iv been wanting to build a motor so i can run a turbo. This is going to be my daily driver. My buddy is going to sell me a stock d16a6 block. All together but stock. including flywheel/clutch. Then ill buy a z6 head complete head and z6 tranny. I just have a few questions.

Since this is going to be a DD i just was going to buy a hf manifold, 14b or 16g turbo, FMI, all the oil lines, BOV, waste gate. I know all that.

1. I wanna run ls rods with vitara pistons. I went to the compression calculator and it says with this motor setup ill have 7.something compression ratio..... Now i know thats pretty low... What could i do to up that to around 8.5-+??

2. And i know.... "Just buy Eagle rods and be done with it..." Well i have a set of ls rods right now. And i know they are stronger let the d16s. I know i need the bushing and shotpeened? i think its called.

3. And how much power would ls rods hold in psi, with a 14b or 16g turbo?

4. This is a budget build so what clutches would be recommended?

5. Should i use a Z6 tranny or the b7? I heard its better for longer gears with turbo so that means b7 but i wanna make sure.

1.) Just purchase the custom "long" rods and be done with it.
2.) See number 1, but stay away from the Eagle rods for that setup.
3.) See number 1, but completely stock? 250whp or so. Rod bolt upgrade? Maybe around 300whp. PSI doesn't mean anything. As much as it takes to get to your HP goal.
4.) Well you don't need a dual clutch for your setup. If you can't afford to purchase half of the other parts, just buy whatever you can find in your budget.
5.) That is one of the BIGGEST BS myths ever. Pick the shorter gears or longer gears to suit your style of driving and goals. A long geared transmission does absolutely nothing in regards to a turbocharged vehicle.

A junkyard build will never be a good idea for a daily driver. Unless maybe you only drive one day a month? You have A LOT to learn. I suggest actually doing some reading before you go any further. Also, without actually stating a budget or any goals nobody but yourself is going to be able to help you.

Whats wrong with eagle rods? And is there no way to raise compression with eagle rods and vitara pistons? Im only at 8:1 with .04 taken off the head.

Haha, this is almost sig worthy. If you increase the length of the rod and change nothing else it will in fact increase compression.

Here something like this:

Well according to the compression calc. With those rods and pistons and a z6 head and head gasket, ill be at 8.35:1. With a y8 2 layer gasket ill have 8.54:1. Which one is ideal?

The higher the better. As long as your squish clerances are fine you have nothing to worry about. For a street engine it is ideal to be as close to at least 9:1 as possible. The Vitara piston is a great budget option that was randomly stumbled upon.
