ecu for my car
i have a 00 b18c5 swapped in my em1. if i use a 96-98 p73 obd2a ecu will it run fine? im currently using a chipped ecu and dont like the fact that it has no redline on it. any info greatly appreciated. thanks.
Search ebay for companies like Rich Tuned and such. Ask them for an OBD1 p28 or P72 and chip it for your car/motor, set a rev limitor where ever you would like. Get free added features like 2-step launch control, delete ELD, 02, Knock sensor or such.
Assuming you have a chipped/socketed obd1 p28 spec ecu:
You may order a 28 pin eprom chip basemap from our website

& drop it into the ecu your self.
There is an instructional video on our website on how to change your eprom chip in an already socketed ecu.

I would say why risk issues with modifying 20+year old factory ecu that also require a jumper harness which can lead to additional problems. With technology progressing as quickly as it is today I would recommend just investing on a stand alone system such as the AEM EMS Series 2 which will plug directly into your factory ecu plugs with no wire modification necessary and is available for OBD-1, OBD-2a and OBD-2b for typical B,D,H and F-series engines. Not to mention available also for K-swapped setups and the S2000.
With the AEM EMS Series 2 you will have brand new hardware as well much more sophisticated software allowing for a superior tune of your fuel and ignition maps. Not to mention all the countless additional features built in that can been very beneficial to your setup now and even for future modifications.
Such as closed loop operation with an AEM UEGO Controller allowing for accurate auto correct of fuel mapping while you are racing/driving and even Coil on Plug setups to replace your entire ignition system including your distributor with a much more accurate and reliable sensors giving you much more control over your ignition system and greater spark capabilities for high rpm/high cylinder pressure setups as well as on board datalogging, launch control, traction control and much more!
I can make you a map and send it to you with a chip. Where you located?
I have a few tuned itr maps. (every motor is different, however, it should put you in the ball park)

Julio - I'm with you 100%, I've had AEM on my DD for, well, forever lol. But based on the context of this thread, do you really think the OP is ready to be turned loose on a full stand alone system?
From my experience, learning about engine management isn't for everyone and you can't teach someone who really doesn't want to learn. And when that's the case, they'll have more fun playing on a level that's a little easier to understand.

If you plan on modifying the engine then go obd1 so you can tune. If its going to remain stock might as well get a stock ecu (p73) obviously, specially if you have to pass emissions.
i dnt really have the cash for a stand alone at this time. iv been looking for a obd2b p73 but iv come to realize it is almost impossible and i would need it with the immobilizer removed
It's not that impossible. For one, the immobilizer can be bypassed.

I'm not sure which board the p73 uses, this guy sells two versions.

It involves less pins than installing a socket...
Honestly though, if you're not opposed to an obd1 conversion just get a basemap from mtber. He sells a great product and since your motor is mostly stock you shouldn't have any worries running on a base until you get more work done and require a proper tune.
