Is this true about oil???
it is true. most damage occurs to lack of oiling. Thats why the best setup is prelube setup with dry sump system. of course that cost money and most people dont have that much dough to dump on deisgned oil system. But for the avg joe they sell some devices that prelube the engine.
Yes its true. The few seconds from startup until you get oil pressure is when alot of wear occurs because the most of the oil is in the pan and hasnt made it through the engine yet.
Somebody makes this kit you can buy, its an electric oil pump system or something like it. Before you start your car it turns on and gets the oil pressure up so the oil is circulating throughout the motor, so everything is oiled before you run the motor. I forgot the website, but it was kinda pricy, like $400.

Can this be caused by turning over the engine a few times before starting? I.E. Have a kill switch going to my MSD 6A box, so that I can crank the car w/o having the coil spark and would allow it to get some moving in there before it actually starts? (It would also be a nice kill switch for thieving ******). Or does it have to be flowing before any oil will get up there?

Even when I let my car sit for weeks then pop the valve cover off.. everything looks damn oily up there. I'm not worried about start up wear.

A 30 second search on MSN sent me to the above webpage... Interesting quote from McDonnell Douglas on the top of the page.
Here is the system I was referring to before that costs $400

Is it worth it? How much life will it add to your motor? I don't know. Honda motors seem to last a long time without prelube systems.

That was an interesting quote...Made me think...But, my Lude is a 96 that I bought brand new so every bit of the 91,xxx miles are mine. Would something like that make a difference now? I would think that most of us here have cars that are 3+ years old.. I think the damage has already begun by then and that system would best serve cars that are newer like within the first 2 years..Just my .02
well you create heat friction anytime you start on rubbing surfaces without oil, so i think it would matter at any point during the car's life span.
