I just read up on CA emission and engine swap threads/regulations, and it seems like I can only use a USDM engine of the same or newer year in my 2000 EJ8. Now my question is that if I get a USDM H22A4 mated up with a B series transmission with all stock (or near stock-looking) components, will I be able to pass BAR? Also, the B20vtec/lsv is pretty much illegal (only if you get caught lol) in CA because the B20 came from a SUV right?

U can ref a b20 n Cali.. One of my buddies has done it.. Bt before u ref b20 u need to ref a b18b1 ls.

 

So I have to swap in a B18B1 first and get it BAR'd, then swap in a B20 block?

 

Sounds like living in Cali sucks these days... if you're into modifying cars

 

The engine has to be newer than the car it is going on. It also has to be usdm. And the B20 engine will not pass BAR on a car because it comes from a SUV. I BAR'd my h2b hatch about 5 weeks ago. H22a1, dc header and aem intake.
