Default Throttle body plate

Is the throttle plate supposed to be completely closed during idle? I read somewhere about it needing to be open %9 so that air can get by for the car during idle. Reason I ask because my car will not to start unless I hold gas pedal down. What is the main source of air to the engine during idle? Car is d16y8

There is only one source of air during idle OR any time else. Maybe try adjusting your throttle cable.

if you have to hold it open sounds like IACV is blocked or dead
its the main source of air at idle
TB plate should be totaly closed at idle

I adjusted it so that my plate is all the way closed, that is why I am asking if it is supposed to be open to let a little air in.

The throttle stop screw should never be touched. It is set at the factory. It now may be difficult to ever get the engine to idle correctly without replacing the throttle body.

I was thinking of just buying an aftermarket TB cause the Previos owner kind of mutilated the current one but I notice aftermarket TB's dont even have the screw.

The TB plate or butterfly should be fully closed as the idle air is controled by the IACV and Idle air bleed screw adjustment

Fully Closed : being that it is closed but with out binding this is why the throttle shaft stop screw is there to adjust it from binding at the closed state

Closed State: being that the TB plate has only 0.001-0.002 clearance from complete seal in the Throttle body bore .. This clearance will prevent the plate from binding / sticking closed

The above does not apply to a Carburetor

The throttle plate should never be fully closed. At closed throttle, the plate is about 10% open.
