Default 98 civic: Ignition, over heating, and cooling fan problems. Help!

I have several problems. I'll try and keep this short.

Ignition:

Occasionally my car won't start. I turn the key and I get not fire or turn over. Everything "lights up," but no fire. Usually takes 4 or 5 turns before the engine will turn and start. Loose wire, no?

Radiator fan:

Not turning on when temp rises. The fan does work. I ran a bypass switch to get it to turn on. I checked the fuses, relay, and temp switch (replaced). Still won't fire up. It actually ran hotter with new temp switch.

Someone else seemed to have had the same issue and it turned out to be a yellow ignition wire not firing up the fuse box under hood.

Heating up:

Even after I got the fan working, the temp still rises. I flushed the radiator and replaced the T-stat. The heater does blow hot air.

Any help would be appreciated! Don't know much about auto electric so please keep it simple for me.

Thanks

What car?

When you turn the key to ON(III) and the engine does not crank, do you still hear the starter solenoid click? Please give more details about the problem.

For the fan, have you tested the fan switch located on the thermostat housing? Have you bled the cooling system?

When I turn the key on (III) the dash cluster lights up but the engine will not turn over. It's dead silence. I don't believe I hear the starter solenoid clicking. I would need to double check but it only does this sometimes. It sounds like a bad connection somewhere.

I have tested the fan switch; I've even replaced it with a new one. Fan still will not turn on except through my bypass switch.

I think I found the problem with it heating up. I believe it was heating up because the fan wasn't coming on. It would heat up when I would come to a stop and no air was flowing. While replacing the switch and T-stat, I also bled the coolant. After doing this (even with the fan on) it would still heat up. It turns out that I did not bleed the system well enough. I had some air pockets and a somewhat bad radiator cap.

I have fixed this issue and it seems to be running at normal temp now, but I still have the ignition problem along with the fan switch problem (which I kinda fixed with a bypass switch).

Any thoughts?

I occasionally have the ignition problem and the radiator fan problem. I am desperately trying to figure this out. I am going to check my yellow wire to the underhood fuse box tomorrow. It seems there is a short somewhere in my circuit because the upper right pin on the radiator fan relay under the hood is burnt. I have burnt 3 relays already. The cooling fan fuse (15A) next to it also is burnt. The radiator fan motor itself is not drawing too much current, I checked that with an ammeter and running the fan with 12V directly. It works fine drawing 10A.

This is on a 92 Civic, but the problem should be relatively similar although the OP said he has a 98 Civic.

Okay. You have a thread on your issue. Why the need to bump old threads?
