I keep failing inspection and it's getting worse each time
I keep failing the inspection and I can't figure out why. The low idle HC keeps failing. Standard is 220 and the first time I went I ran a can of seafoam through and drove around getting my motor and cat nice and hot. I ending up having HC reading of 344. I found out my ignition timing was at 5° btdc and it should of been at 16°. So I set it back to 16° btdc and now my low idle HC is at 483 and I failed the high idle this time as well. I don't know what to do anymore. I cleaned my cap and rotor, my plugs and wires are new, i'm back on the stock tune, I cleaned the gunk off my cat. I'm out of options. Any ideas? And before someone says it, i'm not paying some fool $100 to give me some bogus sticker. I want my car to be legal. And btw the car is a 92 integra with a b16a and i'm in Tx
No, the engine size on the paper says 1700cc So they're testing it as if it were the b17. Only thing I can think of is to buy a brand new cat, or just wait until I go e85. I've been planning on it just don't have the injectors yet, and no my motor isn't boosted

I've got a hi flow cat that is only a few years old, pcv valve is new, o2 is fairly new, my idle is sitting at 1100 and 1200 is the limit for their low idle test, ecu is a chipped p28 which I took my tune off and put the stock p30 tune on for the inspection. I know my mechanical timing is right where it should be, if it were off my car wouldn't be running as well as it is. I've replaced everything I can think of other then just putting a brand new cat on there

reduce idle back to factory spec which is 750 + -50 rpm.
Factory spec timing should be 16 degrees + - 2 degrees
So you will be running 14-15 degrees of timing
And 800-900 rpm.
Simple as that.
Base map should be from a USDM delsol Vtec, Im sure you can have that chipped for that particular map. Not P30 JDM 95 octane ones.
I dont condone the highflow cat, and probably isnt helping, Used or new OBD2 cats are the ISH for inspection porpuses.
Everything else seems kosher, all of the above will net a pass!
Got to agree with the no high-flow cat, most of the guys we dyno tune here, [using high-flow cats] have to be retuned with OEM cats to pass "Air Care" here in B.C. 94
Can you list all mods done to the car. Something isn't adding up. Are they just doing two speed idol test or they running the car on a dyno. I would also check to make sure the coolant temp sensor is working right. Do you have any vacuum leaks? Check the timing belt to make sure you arn't off a tooth.
I would get a new cat. I failed my smog once and that was with the og cat from 1990 and tune up. I got a new cat and sea foamed thecae and passed with flying colors. My car also has a code 12 (egr) and i still passed. cleaning your cat may help, but all the filters inside are all probably blown or whatever. hope this helps.
I drive a 90 teg btw too.
