You'll need to port and shim the oil pump. Not sure if there is a pump out there that already comes that way. And you can't go to wrong with acl bearings.

will this increase my flow or just pressure? because if it gives more pressure but not flow its not worth putting the stress on the oil pump

The y8 doesn't flow as good as the z6 pump. If you don't port it then you'll more than likely spin a bearing.

Differences between the Y8 and Z6 pump are minimal. It's the crankshaft you have to worry about. One oiling hole per journal as opposed to two. You could source a Z6 crank like I did for the next build. Right now I'm running a ported and shimmed pump on my Y8. I've never read up anything on "stressing" the oil pump. Did you make that up?

i was reading it on anouthr forum that was saying the increase in pressure with out more flow would cause stress and break oil pump but that might have been for just shiming it and not porting it

and also i was wondering if i would be better off finding a z6 block with a crank and just putting my y8 head on it seeing as it was just redone with all new upgraded spring retainers and valves?

I have read bad things about shimming the oil pump also, not sure where though, maybe D-series.org

From what I gather if you have good bearing clearance and you just port the pump (no shimming) they work fine with no bearing failure, this is my plan.

But the inherint problem is with the oil passages in the crank, there are two ways to fix this.
1. swap to a z6 crank
2. have the machine shop very slightly port and chamfer the oil holes on the y8 crank.

I do not plan on doing this though, I'm going to port the pump only, and hope for the best as this seems to work fine from what I have read.

Ported and shimmed Y8 pump with Y8 crank. No issues for 3 years and running.
