Swap or turbo?
I just bought a 97 civic dx which has the stock d16y7. I want more power because everything out there just stomps my 106 hp. My question is.. Should I spend the money to swap or just throw a turbo on it? If I do swap, what is the best way to go for the money/ horsepower? I'm new to Hondas any help is appreciated
i say turbo. ITs the route i went and love it.
Since you got a dx you should do a y8 manifold swap first and then turbo.
Also if its 100% stock, then the y8 manifold , ebay header, and a cat back will give you a small bump in power.
But over all a turbo will give you alot more.
Now swaping would one be to a b motor but the cost will be more then a custom turbo kit.

Both! Do you want stock reliability? If so than a swap is in your future. If you want more power regardless of how expensive it gets, then go turbo or both. I love my gsr swap, it is a blast to drive(go-cart on roids) but I bought it to go turbo and can't wait for more power.

You have a ton of reading to do before "throwing a turbo" on your car.

It'd be a hit and miss; turbo'ing a stock D can only take you so far.
If you do a lot more research; plan out your future spendings you can get some amazing numbers if planned right. Personally; i'm going to build up a B-series from the block up and run N/A for a while; then turbo it if available. Don't rush your car unless you have good reasons; and throwing a turbo into a DD without much knowledge of the works of it might not be the best thing to do.

I have a d16Y8 and I slapped a small turbo on it and love it. 210whp is a lot of power for a car that weighs in just over 2,000 lbs. Personally any more power would make it harder to drive.
