Default ARP head stud install, one stud not level

After reading up a bit, I think I ****ed up. I noticed when I was torquing the nuts, that one stud was sitting higher than all the other ones, the stud has a few extra threads showing after completely torqued.

I noticed when I was torquing this nut, that I had to do maybe a whole 360 turn with the ratchet to go from 65lbs to 80lbs, compared to maybe 90 degree turn on all the other studs. I lubed all the studs that thread into the block with oil, some with moly lube.

Do I gotta pull the ****ing head off and fix the stud? That means I gotta buy another goddamn head gasket too.

Inputs please, thanks

Did you hand tighten them down first?

Is it loose? Possibly could have stripped something.

ok so here's where it stands

1 the washer on that stud was dome a little and you needed the extra 270 degree's to flatten it out.

2 you missed that one in the last torque step

3 you pulled the threads out of the block and will need a NEW block.

Did you clean and retap the threads before installing the ARP studs?

You're only suppose to hand tighten them down into the block.

Did it torque down or will it keep spinning?

just pulled the stud. No shavings. I attempted to install the studs with the head on, but I couldnt get this stud to thread into the block at all. Once the head was off I was able to torque it in, but not knowing it wasnt flush with the other studs.. The nut does torque down. I am guessing the threads need to be cleaned. Also, you are able to move the stud very slightly until its almost snug, I am not sure if this is from stripped threads or cause the stud isnt down all the way.

shame on me no, I did not clean, and I don't even know what tapping the threads means. shame on me, please educate me

so you installed the studs with the head on, even after being told repeatedly it was a bad idea in your other thread. then you had to pull the head anyway, and now you ****ed up the block.

Dont blame this on installing them with the head on, its totally irrelevant in regards to the threads being stripped. Plus, I don't think its stripped. There is no metal shavings, the stud threads in just fine, the nut torques. I'm going to clean the thread and go from there. If its stripped, I got a reason now to install my lsvtec motor

OK heres the thing

if you Striped the Block (aka pulled the treads) you wont get the stud to go back in.

also if you put to much oil or grease on the threads when you installed it it will trap oil/grease and/or air under the bolt this can stop it from threading down all the way.
but generaly is NO big deal.

now i belive the studs have a flare at the block end as to prevent ppl from installing them with out pulling the head so you will need to pull the head to check the threads of the block.

also you can tell if the threads are stripped but threading the stud into the block about 2 thread and pulling up slightly and then wiggiling left and right. if the stud pops out and has threads on the end of it the block is ****ed.

Yes you can put a heli-coil in it but a there not intended for use for over 55 Ft lb

now you can get a Timesert that will lock to the block when installed correctly and are rated up to 150 Ft lb but the kits are Very pricey last one i got was $200

yeah I went downstairs to pull the stud to check for shavings etc. The stud went back in no problem. I think there was too much lube/oil in the thread. I am going to torque it back down to 80ftlbs and run it.

If you had read the post and Understood what he was saying he did pull the head to install the studs.

Notes haveing to get ANOTHER HG witch mean he already pulled the head once.

also he NOTED and i QUOTE "I attempted to install the studs with the head on, but I couldnt get this stud to thread into the block at all. Once the head was off I was able to torque it in" were he CLEARLY pulled the head off the block and installed the studs.

ok good luck.

if at any time if feels like it should click at the torque spec but just keeps turning then the threads in the block have gone soft and are starting to strip out. if that is the case i sugest looking for a block and starting a Build for your car.

Just torqued it to 80ftlbs without issues.. I think the thread is fine. Like stated above, I wouldnt be upset if I stripped it. I have a rebuilt ls block and p72 head sittin at my old mans ready to drop in here once I push this motor as far as itll go, gonna shoot for 320whp on 16lbs.

You're not the person selling the b20b sleeved block with supertech pistons on craigslist now are ya?

Thank you everyone for your help, its greatly appreciated!!

a little off topic. but why pull the head and not clean it? also to me in the pic it looks like one of your rocker arms is a little crooked or bent or jacked or something. maybe too much beer but idk.
