Default Low idle....help please

Okay i have a 97 ek hatch with a y7 block and z6 head...since the swap i have been having tons of issues with the performance of the engine. I have it timed at tdc head and block with adjustable cam gear...my issue is it doesnt want to idle above 500rpms then it wants to drop and shut off on me i have messed with the ignition timing a thousand times and cannot seem to figure out why it wants to idle so low... if i drive it its okay once i get up to 3000rpms then it will drive fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like your IACV is not functioning correctly. Have you tried cleaning the throttle body and IACV?

P28 ECU? What's the need for an adjustable cam gear?

Use a timing gun to set the ignition timing to spec with the service connector jumped and a friend holding down the throttle pedal to keep the engine rpm at spec idle speed.

Then adjust the idle speed to spec.

Then first remove the adjustable cam gear and install the stock one. Then do the other things I mentioned, as well as clean the IACV as others have said.

This test^ doesn't necessarily mean the IACV is bad - it also could be dirty or have a bad wire or even a bad ECU.

What ECU? Any CEL codes?

Yes please clean it with brake cleaner or another solvent and check the connection before spending money on a replacement

Yep^

Also consider that the idle speed is set too low.

The iacv was not very dirty at all my only other thought could be...im running the map sensor from the y7 and the purge valve from the y7 any way this could be affecting it
