164,000 miles ...what things to change/replace for a tune up?
hey whats up guys my 92 Prelude has 164,000 miles on it and running strong and would like to give it a tune up. what would you guys suggest i change/replace to keep my baby going? i just had the spark plugs changed and my oil change is coming up soon. I know that i'll need a flush on most fluids. but any suggestions would be great. thanks guys
This is from the top of my head...given that you didnt switch anything yet and that it is applicable for your car. Im guessing you have a honda?
change hoses
change belts (timing, ac, ps, alternator)
check valve cover, oil pan, and head gaskets
check camshaft seals
check distributor bearings
change spark plugs
chang spark plug wires
change distributor cap
flush all vital liquids
For AT tranny... do a full tranny flush
adjust valve lash clearances
change water pump
change thermostat
change thermo switch
check if radiator fan works
adjust timing
do a voltage drop
check/fill all fluids
service AC
service brakes
check exhaust piping
service steering components
change axles
check wheel bearings
check ball joints
check shocks/springs
check upper shock mounts
check all bushings (swaybar, lca, rear trailing....check for subframe tear)
check all fuel lines coming from tank
check fuses (have extras handy)
change O2 sensor
change fuel filter
check all lighting components
lube whatever needs to be lubed
anybody can add to this? feel free to.
btw...no specific order

At 164,000 miles....
change hoses
...I've still got all the original hoses on my '90 Si. Depends on what condition yours are in...
change belts (timing, ac, ps, alternator)
....Normally done with timing belt. Your timing belt isn't due until either 180,000 or 220,000 miles (I can't recall what year they upped the interval) That's assuming it was changed when due the first time...
check valve cover, oil pan, and head gaskets
check camshaft seals
check distributor bearings
change spark plugs
...You state you just did this recently....
chang spark plug wires
...Still running my originals. Depends on condition....
change distributor cap
flush all vital liquids
For AT tranny... do a full tranny flush
adjust valve lash clearances
change water pump
....Done with timing belt....
change thermostat
change thermo switch
...Check, don't change thermo switch....
check if radiator fan works
adjust timing
do a voltage drop
check/fill all fluids
service AC
service brakes
check exhaust piping
service steering components
change axles
...Only if they click, cause vibration, or if the CV boots are leaking. However, at your mileage, they may need replacing. Mine got changed out at 176,000 miles...
check wheel bearings
check ball joints
check shocks/springs
check upper shock mounts
check all bushings (swaybar, lca, rear trailing....check for subframe tear)
check all fuel lines coming from tank
check fuses (have extras handy)
change O2 sensor
change fuel filter
check all lighting components
lube whatever needs to be lubed
