Default only able to tune WOT????

So I was talking to my tuner the other day about my simple b16 turbo setup. I'm running open downpipe that ends right about at the middle of the flywheel cover. The o2 sensor hold is about 7 inches away from the turbo. He said he won't be able to tune idle or partial throttle. Is this true? Should I extend my exhaust a little bit?

IMO you should find a new tuner!

They're a legit tuning shop though. Good reviews and whatnot. He said the o2 sensor would see too much fresh air? Sounded weird to me, but I'm not a tuner

OK so you mentioned that the O2 was 7" from the turbo. How far is it from the end of the exhaust?

If you feel that they are legit then why question them? You should do what they recommend you to do....

Its about a foot away. And there's a 45 degree ben on the pipe too. I just don't want my partial throttle to suck or my idle

12" may be a bit short, however, what did your tuner tell you would be the minimum length he could tune with? I guess that would be your best bet to keep him happy. and a happy tuner makes for a happy customer.

There are tuners ou there that use the tail pipe sniffers to tune.

Yeah, he's using a wideband to tune. If he can't tune partial throttle does that mean I will have no power until I step on it all the way?

To be honest with you, you should ask them these same questions and see what they say. Better to get to know your tuner than to get misinformation online.

We don't know what your tuner can and can't do or what they prefer.

I understand his theory behind not wanting to tune part throttle/idle w/ such a short exhaust, but its still not that hard to read... I have no problems getting accurate AFR's on my open DP. My WBO2 is only 6" away from the end of the pipe.

IMO if he's not comfortable tuning the way it is, why not just find out how much of a tail section he would like put on? Can't cost jack and it will put him in his comfort zone.
