Default turbo woes

hello. i am depressed with turbo woes. i have owned my b16 for about 3 years now.i bought it from h motors and turbod within 1500 miles of install.

now my head is lifting under boost (arp's, cometic, 15 psi.)
a year ago i switched to the arp's and the new headgasket and it has never sealed right since. i milled the head when i did the gasket but not the block. woe is me
now the block is coming out.

i have a question so i dont run into this simple trouble in the future.

when i first got the engine from h motors i noticed the stock clutch was very blue overheated burnt and small cracks. this obviously describes a abused clutch right?

do you think it is possible that the motor was overheated and warped when i bought it.

next motor i get i would like to identify future problems if possible befor they arise.


p.s. car was professionally tuned, and never over heated

sounds like a moderately abused clutch to me and i dont think that would point to an overheating issue at all. get rid of the cometic head gasket they're crap. go with oem GE or felpro and give that a shot before u go nuts with the machining.

Nope, you were right, stick with the OEM. Forget that other arbitrary company for a turbo build.

is cometic really crap? i will be checking the deck for warpage befor i machine. thanks for the input. so oem is the way to go? if i end up taking the block out i will buy pistons and rods. should i still use oem head gasket if shooting for 450?

No. but needs to be prepped a bit differently than OEM. I use one myself on several builds I've done.

there are endless amounnts of ppl who have problems with them, installation error? most likely but oem ones hold up just fine to whatever u can throw at them so why even bother. imo i would try an oem gasket and arp studs torqued properly with an accurate torque wrench before i started machining. when you have it apart a straight edge and some feeler gauges wouldnt be a bad idea just to do a quick check.

I think Mr Shodan has some kind of trick using RTV/Silicone sealant on the HG.

ya ive heard copper spray and so on, just seems easier to go oem
