Default Made some splitter brackets

They are pretty rough right now but basically done. Any suggestions or thoughts? Im not trying to make better pieces in comparison to some of the kits out there fyi.

3 lbs per side, helps for me since Im way under weight for my class anyway.

Maybe slot the holes where they bolt to the car. I made mine with flat stock with 2 long slots welded to 12 inch long angle iron. They are heavy. I like your "quick disconnects", make sure they are tight.

The slots will come in handy, I had planned to do that a little bit for height adjustment and easier fitment. That stuff is so hard to drill out!

I will be grinding all the sharp edges smooth and then throwing some paint on them. The elevator bolts are awesome pieces I found at Lowes, I think they are the same bolts as what the PCI brackets have.

The pins are pretty tight, so tight the whole quick disconnect inst so quick lol.

Thanks Paul, I did weld them. Im not the best at it but Im seeing how handy it is to have a welder around. I borrowed a shitty craftsman from a friend to repair my trailer and do some things like above.

I think you will find it difficult to get the lower bracket aligned when it is installed on the splitter blade. There's not a lot of space to work under there. You might want to swap one of those pins for a bolt and tack the bolt to the upper bracket. Slot the lower bracket with a bandsaw. That gives you something to hang the splitter on while you fidget it up enough to align the remaining pin. Plus the bolt allows you to put a nut on it so you can tighten it down and take all the slack out of the mounting. Not that I made brackets a few years ago which were very similar

I think if you make it a habit of pulling the bumper off ... I do while loading and unloading.
it wont be so difficult? Worth a try?

Yeah, I think it will work out but I hear you.

I'm going to see how it fits up and what needs to be changed. I think at the height I'm
going I won't have to be pulling on and off.

Good job Corey! I love them. The ones I make are similar but one piece. So to remove the setup you have to unbolt from the tow hook locations. They are slotted for height and angle adjustment. I like the pin idea though that's cool.

Thanks JW, my first attempt so I'm sure I may come up with some changes.

They are overkill at this thickness but having a little more weight in front isn't terrible.

Thanks guys. I obviously looked at kiwis design for some inspiration as well as a set Jeff Underwood had on his EF ITB car. After seeing Jeff's, I just felt like mine were garbage lol.

The units will work as they sit, but I didn't like the non adjustable parts. The only way to get the right height would be trial and error or slotting the steel (I dont have the tools to slot that thickness). I have some ideas I'm working on that I think will offer an easily installed setup with disconnects, adjust-ability, lighter weight, and cheaper costs.

Cory, It ain't easy is it?
Pretty good job though. Without giving offence I'll give you a couple of hints that might save you a lot of $$$$ in the long run.
My philosophy... A Splitter is a disposable item. If it is still in one piece after several events youre not trying hard enough! A splitter needs to be easilly removed or replaced and must be cost effective. A $30.00 piece of plywood works just as well as a $200.00 piece of Alumalite or Carbon Fiber, Depends whether you are a Baller or a Racer?

1/ overkill- Congratulations your design is almost identcal to the very first set of mounting brackets I ever made. However, they are too strong. Yes thats right they are too strong, and too long. When your splitter meets the fate that they all do eventually, you will not only lose your bumper, your lip, and your splitter but you will be in for a mega $$$ replacement of the front frame rails- Been there and Done that!
2/ Where your brackets attach to the blade is too narrow front to rear- At speed the blade will tend to bend down at the front because you don't have enough front rear support.
3/ We use a secondary Alloy mounting bracket (Sacrificial) so that in the event of the splitter hitting something solid it will break away completely.
Think about this... Your leading the 2nd last last lap of the race, you hit a kerb and break the splitter... It needs to be gone! otherwise you get black flagged for having half a splitter flailing around under the car.
There is a picture of one of our splitters elsewhere on here - Probably under "P1 Splitters"
Where one of our P1 Splitters met its end, and the Design worked as it was intended... The only damage was to the Blade and the sacrificial alloy brackets. I believe the lip and bumper were undamaged?

Give me a call and I'll hook you up with a set of brackets, save yourself some damage.

We prefer to sell the complete kit because we have so much invested in the precise laser cutting of our brackets etc. but yes, every now and then I make an exception. Give us a call.

The only thing I dislike on the P1's lips is the one for the JDM DC2 front, I like the USDM front and could deal with that but, the JDM front one just looks like someone hit it in the face and gave it a fat lip LOL

sooo... another lip that will work?

Thanks kiwi, I might take you up on that when I get closer to being done with most of my critical pieces.

I do enjoy fabing stuff though!

No problem man, Racing is expensive enough, I just don't like to see young guys make the same mistakes I have learned from. Yes fabricatin is fun! And it can be rewarding if you always remember to be your own worst critic.
