2001 Honda prelude sh doesn't want to go into reverse
Hey guys, I just picked up a bb6 and it has a 98 yranny swapped into it. The old one is bad I assume. When I got it... It didn't really wanna go into reverse.... But it went in. Now it doesn't even wanna shift into reverse
I push the clutch in all the way, my fluid is level. And I bleed my clutch system. But she still doesn't wanna go into reverse. What do I do next? What can I do to diagnose the problem.
Thanks ahead of time!

Idler gear fork may be bent, you could try rolling your foot off the clutch slowly while pushing the lever to reverse so that everything in the trans will rotate and make it easier for it to line up. Reverse is straight cut with no synchronizer, sometimes doesn't line up.
Yes I mis shifted into 3rd two times
I will try right now to let my foot of the clutch slowly. Thanks guys, I'll get back to you on that.

It still doesn't want to go in. I bought the car with it being rough to go in and leave reverse. Then after I miss shifted.... It doesn't wanna go in now
But when I let go of the clutch slowly... It went in half or a quarter way into gear.

I had an issue like this on my 98SH and it turned out my clutch disc was separating. Adjusting the clutch pedal gave me another 2-3 weeks before I had to drop the transmission and replace all that good stuff. Hope this helps...

ok, well i also have the option of buying a h23 tranny for 250$ from a friend. so are you guys thinking its worth taking that one out and putting the h23 or fix the h22?? im just in highschool still and dont have the greatest funds out there. I swapped a a tranny in my civic before, so i know how it is done. But i have never taken one apart... and have no idea what is going on in there!
But is there a way to tell if it is the clutch disk separating... or the tranny is going out?

You have to use an M2U4 SH trans, nothing else will fit without removing the ATTS and fabricating an axle bracket in it's place.

Ok, so i would have to get the m2u4 tranny for it then. Perfect
but is there a way to check if its tranny or clutch disk separation?

If there was a problem with the clutch you'd be having problems with all the gears, ignore the post about the clutch.
Ok. I guess that makes sense then. What are you guys thinking is messed up in there? Because I could try to tear it apart... If its nothing terrible!
Like is there a DIY for it? And manual that has this stuff in there?

The only way to know is to remove the tranny and split the case open. You might as well put in a new clutch, pressure plate, TOB, and rear main seal too while it's apart and
FYI - Mitchell flat rate for rear main seal R&R in an SH is TEN HOURS (the ATTS has to be removed first). So if you're doing it yourself at home DOUBLE that and add a few more hrs.

You're in luck. I have an SH tranny I will be selling here shortly. No grinds and ATTS works! Make me an offer. I can send you a video of the car driving if you like. Getting rid of my whole SH drivetrain and swapping to something better.
If you plan on pulling all that apart yourself you should invest in a slide hammer with an extension and the tool that threads onto it for pulling CV axles. That will make life a lot easier and anyone that says different is lying to you.
What are your plans for the motor? I am looking for some parts...
i talked to a buddy of mine, and he had stated that it might be the shift linkage! so i checked it out, and i cant tell anything from the shift linkage. I was wondering is there like a way to tighten or loosen the shift linkage?? anything that i can do?

I had to get a new tranny because mine did the same thing yours is. It started with reverse going and then went to also completely losing fifth gear. I wish I would have had the time to break in to the transmission myself and do some hands-on learning but I just couldn't afford the down time.
Like the clutch, wouldn't a non-functioning shift linkage cause you issues in EVERY gear?
