Default alternate ways to sync timing - AEM

Just looking for some insight, have an F20b ran with aem ems and having some timing sync issues.basically it has an aftermarket flywheel with unverified mark for timing reference. Im hesitant to use this mark due to the amount of change needed to ge a correct sync. My thoughts, lock timing at 0* after warmup and use the timing gun on the cam gears hoping to get the timing synced at the point both notches line up, similar to method on flywheel. This would ensure timing sync is accurate, your thoughts????

You can use the cam gears & you can also mark the flywheel by setting the engine at top dead center.

There are timing marks on the flywheel, they were not put on with precision, I'll explain later.

Essentially since I had no good way of setting timing, I removed the mid belt cover, adjusted timing to 0 and my offset to 0 (forget the name of it at the moment) and adjusted the distributor till both lines met via timing light. I verified this two ways from the ecu and is now set. I also went back to check my flywheel and its roughly 5* retarded compared to this method.

The flywheel was marked after about 10 beers without any bolts or dowels used to align the OE flywheel and the aftermarket flywheel.

Anyway, just for future reference both notches on cam gears SHOULD line up at 0* timing when synced with the ecu via timing light and cylinder 1.

btw, i didn't notch/mark the flywheel............ lol
