Default the impossible...cv-axle nightmare

so i was driving my car right after i put my new clutch in making sure everything felt good before i put my tools away. and that is when it happened long story short the passenger side cv-axle broke at the c-clip retainer in the trans. so the axel and clip i got out but i can't get the 1/8 inch of the tip of the shaft out of the trans. it is free moving past the splines all i want to do is get it out so i can put the new one in.

It should be steel. Try a magnet.

Something like this:

that was the first thing i tried unfortunately the magnet is not strong enough to pull the piece back on to the splines

You could try splitting it in half with a chisle/punch or I think if you remove the intermediate shaft or other axle you would be able to stick a screwdriver in and push it out.

If it went in past the splines good luck every getting it out without talking the trans and diff apart.

i got it out with a hanger and a flat head screw driver. there was a hole in the middle of it so i made small hooks that reached through the hole and grabbed the other side.
thanks for everyone's input and help

Buy a high strength magnet (don't chisel it out you'll F it up) - here:

http://www.magnet4less.com/product_i...roducts_id=653

Put at end of steel rod and use to pull out steel shaft. BE VERY CAREFULL THESE MAGS CAN BREAK BONES AND CRUSH BODY PARTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
