Default Sporadic power loss with CEL(but no code)

Alright im going to make this as simple as possible...at times whether im driving easily and cruising or getting on it my engine temporarly looses all power then comes back to life and sometimes it will happen multiple times and then it will finally throw a cel but it doesnt show a code....when this happens I can sometimes shut my car off then secure the fuel pump (killswitch) crank it to burn out excess fuel then turn the pump back on and then it fires right up often clearing the cel.....does anyone have ANY idea as to what it could be? The only thing I can think of is a faulty ignition system....car has a b18c (stock compression) and some head work tuned on s200

^^so when you say the engine loses all power, what happens to the operations of the gauge cluster? like tach and instrument panel lights. does everything die?
