Default Ep3 Engine suggestion

I have a few options for my brothers ep3. and i would like some feedback. essentially, he needs new rings in the car. that has been determined, so i dont need questions asking whether or not he really does or not. here is the question. my dad and i will be doing the work for him, and i have pulled an engine out of an ep3 before so i understand the work. we can either pull the engine and rering it. or we could leave the engine where it is, and just pull the head off and rering it with the engine where it is. or as another option, pull the engine entirely and swap a lower mileage element or crv motor. i understand we can swap a k20 type r motor in and all that, but this is just a stock fix for him and we are trying to save money. so what is easiest so far as rering process. and opinions on just swapping something lower mileage instead?

any k24 would easily outperform what you have now and leave endless choices for future upgrades

what all is required to put a k24 in there? i have briefly seen what all you need to do for a k20a type r swap, and it is not worth it for us to do all of that considering the price tag. and also keeping in mind this is just a stock swap we have going on. if it was me, hell yeah, swap a type r in for sure. but its not unfortunately. plus im sure that added torque of the k24, even in the stock form, would be a sweet upgrade, considering how much of a crap motor the k20a3 is to begin with
