Default EK window wont close (not off track)

Hey ht, just gpt an ek and was fiddling with the window for about 2 hours, its not off track as far as i know, basically it will only close all the way if i roll it up near the top, then take my hand and push the window the the left (left from inside and drivers side) then it will close all the way, otherwise it will stay open maybe 1/8th inch, also seems to be alot of play in the window. I have a video i will post up in a little

How do you know it's not off the track? Take the door panel off and check it's fairly easy.

Did you check the window regulator/motor? I had that issue, one of the teeth on the regulator broke off.

Get yourself a can of silicone spray from an auto parts store (autozone or pep boys if available) and spray it in the rubber window track let it leak down the track as well, I had window issues as well and bought myself a can. You'd be amazed at how easily your windows will glide up and down once you treat the dried out track..

Thanks for the info man, would this cause the window to go up at an odd angle at the VERY END of the track? Cause thats what seems to be happening, im sure the spray will help tons cause the track is dried to sh**

No problem bro, I'd say the dried rubber would cause it to pop out of track and even go up in a weird angle, usually it will go up in a weird angle before popping out of track.. At least that's the experience i had, Yeah the spray will help, you may have to treat the rubber once a month and then it will be good to leave alone for a while.. usually after a car wash or heavy rainfall i'd treat it. But it's been almost a year since the last treatment and it glides up and down perfectly.. The brand of spray i got is Liquid wrench Silicone spray. Hope it solves your problem!

I suggest the silicone spray also. I sprayed the window tracks because it had trouble opening and closing, kind of like what you have but it would close eventually. Still holding up after 6 months.

They aren't that expensive from the dealership. I had a similar issue a couple years ago, easy to fix. Check out Majestic. These parts are coming up on two decades old.

I had one of these break on me during a 8 hr road trip. I went to a drive up, rolled down my window. Got my stuff...went to roll up the window...and POP. I ended up breaking the cable right in half.

I pulled the panel off there---walked around their parking lot, ended up cutting a branch to size and jamming it into the space so the window couldnt fall down. Threw the panel on and *thankfully have great working a/c*

Anyhow..they are about 35 bucks at a junker. I have a spare since its a common problem on these cars-- and I roll around with silicone in my trunk- I thought all 96-00 civics did actually.

Takes 20 mins to replace. No biggie job.

The window track needs to be replaced. This car is getting on 12 yrs. old, no way around it. And if you keep manipulating the window, you'll probably strip the window regulator if you haven't already:

I'm the original owner of my EJ and it has spent probably 98% of its life in a garage. Doesn't matter. The rubber parts in the door and the seals are breaking down now.

You can spray the rubber parts, but this will only go so far.

If you want this to be right, replace the window track and door seals, and get a new regulator for the driver's door. The regulator is the cheap part and aftermarket is fine. The seals really need to be from Honda.

You'll be happy you did, and will eliminate the whistling and a lot of road noise in the process.

dont waste your time spraying the track go ahead and get you a new window track and new regulator i promise youll love the difference, its not worth your time spraying the track ever other day and it only makes it worse over time
