Default forced induction engines daily driven vs valve guides.

straight stock or upgraded metal series. ie: copper heat treated guides. which are more sufficient for a daily motor? im in the process of replacing mine and i would like to know. i read somewhere on here that if you are using a straight race setup and only do passes and not drive it regularly then bronze is the way to go. but what if i want to upgrade from oem but do not want to go full copper/bronze. are there any other types that are offered???

I'd recommend a good quality bronze guide. They enable you to run a tighter stem to guide clearance which improves the heat tranfer rate from the valves. I can see it been quite a benefit for the exhaust side..

The downside is they don't last anywhere near as long as stock. For your specific build: are you even going to finish it?

Is that with all types of bronze guides ? My machine shop told me that if the guides are made from "manganese" bronze then there shouldn't really be a noticable difference in wear (providing everything else is fine). They said that its the cheaper quality bronze that wears out quickly.

I'm not saying your wrong BTW. So don't take it like that...

I know you are not... This is a debated topic that has been covered many times. The only bad part is you have to wade through the BS to find the answers:

https://honda-tech.com/forums/all-motor-naturally-aspirated-44/bronze-vlave-guides-oem-1831587/
https://honda-tech.com/forums/tech-misc-15/brass-valve-guides-silicon-vs-manganese-2773298/

There are more if you need them... I have been through a few sets of bronze guides myself. The old ones were horrible and sometimes only lasted a season. Now, with a daily driver you might be able to get 30-60k out of them. That's not even close to OEM... Now I will sit back and wait...

well, ive already put up an order for some bronze ones, and if you say they should last 30/60k....thats more than enough time to get my OTHER gsr head(the more preferred built one) sent out and get the caps line honed and set up to swap back out with the stock one im using now. so i can deal with that. no problem at all.

* What I meant to say was with the newer style "Manganese-bronze" guides you should get that life span out of them.

Not to say they don't wear out but I have 30k miles on mine and they show no signs of wear at all. Stock don't really wear but if you bend a valve even slightly they crack apart and eat your turbine wheel

I had originally read those and did not want to bump those old threads(though I might have skipped what I was looking for) but I figured there may have been a better slash more quicker response

Forgive me.
