Axle replacement (need the instructions)
I tried and failed at an axle replacement this past weekend..... Now I have to give the job to my buddy (whos an american motors fan) and has no clue about the best cars, I mean hondas.
Does anyone have the instructions? I dont mean like a DIY, I mean like a chiltons type write up for me to pass along? Hes a real good wrencher, but he wants something to go by.
Hes got air tools---or Id do it myself.

Autozone has free guides on their website. If it's front axles, they are easy as pie, just need to make sure they lock into the tranny when you put them back. Guide link:

EG Specific (manual transaxle):http://www.autozone.com/autozone/rep...00c15280061c48
If that doesn't help I have the actual chiltons guide for 92-95 civic.

^^that. if hes even semi decent with a wrench he can do it. its what i used. but a ball joint separator is very helpful.
get new axle nuts too. you could reuse em i suppose but its like 10 bucks for that extra assurance.

New axle nuts are like $1.50 from honda.
If you jack the suspension up, and put the handle of a 1/2" drive Craftsman ratchet wrench (or something else that wedges fairly tight) in, and lower the suspension, the springs will push back down and break the ball joint loose also. Much easier and less chance of ripping the boot like you likely will with a pickle fork.

Like said before it's really easy. Once you get them free they will pop out with a quick tug and reinstalling is the reverse. You should do it instead of your buddy so you get the experience. Good luck
Im telling you guys...the bolt must be seized up.
I did this...jacked up car, removed tire.
Put car on jackstand at lowest setting.
Undid the dent in the bolt (to release it)
Got a 32mm bolt on a 2' breaker bar....
used my arms-nothing
stood on it -nothing
Got out a piece of pipe- nothing
Banged on the pipe with a rubber mallet
Got a bigger pipe- nothing
Then got out the impact---nothing
When I did the rear hub on my other civic-- I took the tire off, used the 2' breaker and pushed down..it came right off, this axle though...it was NOTHING like that.
My buddy whos doing the work now has a full shop in his garage---120 gallon compresser and builds stock cars on his spare time. Im pretty confident in his ability. I know changing axles aint no big deal...4 bolts, pull one out, push one in, couple bolts---
I was confident in it, til I couldnt get the bolt off of course.

Pop the center cap out and leave the car on the ground to take the axle nut off, if you're using hand tools. Use a jack to jack the breaker bar up to loosen it, if you can't get enough leverage on it.
