Help with GSR dyno - where is more power?
Here is the setup -
B18C1
Crower Rods
JE 9.8:1
Block Guard
JG Edelbrock IM
Drag Gen3 kit
RC 440 / Hondata 2B
I was dissapointed with the outcome of only 250 WHP @ 15 psi. I know the car could gain some by cam gears, but is the turbo the main restriction on this? I see some of you guys claiming 300+ on stock ITRs, and I have another B18C1 that made 262 WHP with 7 psi from a Drag Gen2. The turbo is noticeably larger on the compressor housing. I compared the 2 dyno sheets between the 7 psi drag2, and the 15 psi drag3, and they almost opposites. The drag3 has about 40 hp more in the low end, while the drag2 has about 15 more, and thats 7 psi versus 15. What size turbo would you recommend? We are aiming for 300 WHP, preferably on 8 - 10psi. I will post the dyno sheets later today, need to get them from the shop. Also, A/F was tuned in at 12:1 from 4000 on, I know it would make more leaner, but its a daily driver. We changed the timing up 2 degress, no difference. Changed it down 2 degrees, no difference. Left it down to keep cylinder pressures down. Owner of the car is ready to get cam gears and a different turbo. Will we see 300+ with those mods? Lastly, what about a throttle body? I would expect maybe 10hp, but could it be more? Thanks for the info!

Currently exhuast is HP Racing 2.5" exhaust. I was going to drop it and make a run on the dyno, but I didn't have time yesterday. Do you think that its holding the car back 50+ WHP worth? Anyone know specs on turbos, and how efficient the stock drag gen3 is? How much power can it make? The reason I ask is, I have seen DSMs make 325+ @ 18 psi, with a Big16G. I thought the drag turbo was a bit bigger than a 16g. Am I right or what?!?!?
you sure VTEC is working? At 15psi, I got 350whp on the same exact setup, with lower compression pistons on a customers car. On a boosted car, VTEC is worth about 90hp - seriously. Other than that, I can only think that your timing is significantly retarded or your have other mechanical issues.

BOOST
Bad Tuning
We have vtec set at 5300, as it made the hp curve as gradual as possible, with no dropoff. I am lost, as I figured this thing would make at least 300. How much timing are you running on the 350 whp car? We saw no gains above 18 on the top end. What turbo are you running? Is it a t3/to4e? I think the one that we have is a t3/t4b? Not sure 100% tho. Any other ideas? Oh, running on stock cams, with no cam gears. Anyone have a before and after dyno of cam gears on turbo car?
ah ha, t3/04b. theres the secret right there. That turbo likely can't flow the top end you need. Ours was running similar timing advance, but with a t3/04E 54 trim.
I made 334whp @ 15psi with a 60-1 and with 1 cylinder leaking 61%. If you are sure vtec is working it has to be the turbo. If 300whp is you goal I would go with a t3/4e 50-54/63.
