I have a 93 Cb7 with a H22a1 swap. This past week I pulled the head off to change the headgasket and put some new seals in too. I already replaced the seals cleaned up the block and head etc...When I pulled the head instead of loosening the T.belt tensioner I just slide the belt off. BUT I made sure it was at TDC before I slid the belt off. So my question is, is it absolutely 100% positively NECESSARY to redo the whole Timing Belt process (Balancer Shaft etc) or can I just slide the belt back on the cams being that its still at TDC? I'm looking to finish this tomorrow so anybody with answers to this PLEASE HELP ME OUT! Thanks in advance

You should always atleast make marks on the belt be sure that you can get it back on correctly, but you should be fine.

 

Re-do everything everytime you're going to install the t-belt.

I did that once, hoping that everything is still at TDC but I was wrong. My engine was like 3-4 tooth off counterclockwise at the crank and both my cam gears were a tooth off of eachother. Big mistake, but luckily, my engine ran strong and didn't bend any valves.

 

it doesn't take long at all to line things up properly. an extra 5 minutes wont kill you and it may save your engine!

The thing is he wasn't doing a complete timing belt replacement, just changing the head. While I would vote on pulling everything it is possible if nothing moves during the head swap.

My crank moved when I pulled my cams out to get them replaced, and I didn't even touch the crank pulley. It was still off.

 

Its been a while since Ive been on Honda-Tech. Thanks for all the responses guys. I did end up getting the timing re-done and decided to remove my balancer shaft belt while it was already exposed. Not to bring a old thread back but, however after getting the timing done this same H22 won't start and backfires through the intake. Everything is lined up im positive about that. What could be the reason for that? Ive searched other forums and threads of people that have had the same issue but I couldnt come up with any solutions...Any sugesstions?

 

Not sure on the H motors, are you sure the MAP and TPS connectors are on the correct sensor.....happens all the time on the F motors and it produces what you are describing

 

I will definitely take a look into it when the sun comes up. (Since its already morning as I'm posting this lol) I plan to go over the vaccum lines and inspect the dizzy and hoses. Also check the ignition timing. Thanks for the addition to the list! Makes me a little more calm to know it "might" NOT be the cam timing. Ill post results tomorrow
