Default 94 accord vtec not working

I recently bought a 94 accord that the previous owner did a engine swap in. The new engine is a f22 vtec. He put in the new ecu but the old wiring harness. the check engine light is on saying the vtec doesn't work. I found the wiring diagrams for that situation and he had it wired wrong. I re-wired it (solenoid switch to a4, oil pressure to d6) and now I can't get it to rev past 4800. It starts backfiring and stalls out at about 4800 rpms I hot wired the solenoid and it clicks in. So im pretty sure it works. What's wrong???!!!

Is your check engine light still on? If it is clear it and see if it comes back on. If it does read the codes and then we can troubleshoot from there.

With the 2 wire pressure switch. Did you ensure the ground wire went to a chassis ground and the power wire went to D6?

Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds.

Hopefully this should help clarify things,

Sucks having to troubleshoot wiring done buy people how have no idea what they are doing. To use the same colour wire for both is pretty bad.

OBD1 should clear with key off, if light imediately illuminates when you start is is a constant, not a failed monitor. Check to see if the same codes and continue with diag. I don't know different about wire config but it sounds like you have that figured out, although the issue could be inside the solenoid. Unplug it and run it and see if it still stalls out.

Thanks for the info! I checked to see that everything was right and then I read the code. Got error code 22 (pressure switch) I read that I can bypass it by jumping a4 and d6 on the ecu. So im gonna try that. Do I need to unplug it at the switch though? I wasn't quite clear about that...

Its always reading the same code (22) I did unplug the solenoid and it runs fine just no power above about 5000 rpms. It only stalls when I had everything plugged in.

I just read on someone elses post about vtec. They briefly mentioned something about connecting the external coil, and canon plugs on the shock tower... what's that and how does it wire in with the rest of the solenoid?
