the PRNDL on my 96 civic turns off as soon as i turn my head lights on.

 

When did this start happening?

 

as soon as i put a fuse to get the cluster to light up. Bought the car with no radio or lights on the cluster

 

What did the previous owner say was the cause of it? Was there some bad wiring done?

 

Told me that the cluster didnt light up because of needing a new fuse sure enough i replaced the fuse and it did light up but as soon as i put a new one in and turn my head lights on the prndl goes off. if i remove the fuse the prndl works fine

 

Is the dimmer working?

no the dimmer is not working the cluster stays at full brightness and ill check the link thanx

 

Definitely, the previous owner screwed up the wiring. A car's electrical system is not something to do trial and error experiments. Hopefully, the guy didn't mess it up too bad.

 

assuming he did screw up the wiring what steps would i take in fixing it. most i have ever wired is a stereo lol

 

Pull the dimmer. Look for hacked wiring.

 

i pulled the dimmer out of the small socket its in and saw nothing wrong with the wires but cant get to all the wires is there any way to pull that air vent out?

 

Man. There are three threads going on with this same issue. Hacked wiring from the previous owner and various interior lights not working. TBH you guys are going to have to start checking all the affected wiring. Not a fun job.

 

guess im going to have to take apart my car and find it XD
