Default Transmission Problems

Was driving then heard a loud pop and then clanking noise like I was dragging something. Pulled over and saw nothing under the car. When I turned the car back on I could not get it into gear so I turned the car off and wiggled the shifted then turned the car back on. When I started it, I got it into third but when I rolled forward I heard a knocking/clicking noise every full revolution of the wheel so I stopped and could not get the car to stay on while the shifted was in neutral. I turned off the car. checked granny fluid, was a little low so I filled it up. Still will only move in third gear and knock/clicks.
I was at a red light, when it turned green I was in first gear got half way through the light when this happened.

1990 Civic with 1990 I believe 5 speed sedan transmission

check your axels, make sure lugs are tight, make sure your shift linkage is hooked up right.

Axles are all snug in place, lugs are nice and tight, linkage has not been messed with since I got the car two years ago. But it looked fine when I climbed under the car.

Is your problem now getting it started or getting it in? Does it grind putting it in any gear besides third?

No, the car starts and runs fine. I just cannot get it into any gear other than third. It does not grind it just wont go into gear.

Sounds as if the shifting linkages are messed up or something in your tranny broke off. If you heard a pop and grinding sound, that's no good.

When I go back home, I will have to put the transmission and check if anything broke and make sure the linkage is OK.
Thank you very much for the suggestions.

Finally got time to get back home. My pops said he was too busy to take 30mins out of his day to crack it open. Oh well. I took the transmission apart and found this:

I was wondering if it would be easier/cheaper to fix it or replace it. Found a SI Tranny fr $200

If you trust the source and know the SI trans is good, get it!

The transmission is from a transmission shop and they guarantee it for 30 days. I think I am going to go with the SI so I can feel like I'm going fast!

Is it possible to put a 92-95 transmission gear set in a 88-91 case to utilize the cable instead of going hydro? Just trying to think outside the box.
