f22a1 odd vtec noise
ok i had installed a a6 cam and ecu in my a1 and now that cam broke and now stock is back in timing is back to normal and i have the a6 ecu in still and now my car sounds like its vtec and i have less power idk what the problem is this time i love the sound but im afraid of it to
i can make mine sound like a vtec or cammed if i punch it around 4500rpms (totally noticeable)....i never knew what it was. Never really looked into it either.
is it doing it when you head towards redline or just everytime you get over 4000rpms? mine does its from like 4500-6500 if im punching it. I have no idea what it is but it sounds cool lol.
That sounds like your hitting a rev limiter in that video. Is your check engine light on?
BergRacing21,
I think that sound you hear is your engine hitting it's peak tq & hp RPM range. It is enhanced even more if you have a cold air intake and a tube header.

OK then I didn't hear anything but a loud exhaust or open throttle body and a few quick throttle blips.
I'm sure what you are thinking is VTEC is simply the power band of your engine. Like I said before. With the stock intake piping and exhaust removed it is enhanced. I'm sure running an A6 ECU with an A1 engine isn't going to hurt anything. Probably not going to give you any added performance without the cam and intake though. The fuel trims will level out and it will act just like your OEM ECU.
I used to get that VTEC feel all the time. It would actually set me back in my seat a bit when stretching out the gears going up a highway on ramp. It would be going along nice and smooth and then around 4500-4700 there would be a bit of a kick.... that's the sweet butter range!
All I had was a chipped ECU, 255cc injectors, SRI, ported IM and a 4-2-1 header with 2.25" collector and exhaust.
